The original Pastéis de Belém, baked fresh since 1837
Pastéis de Belém serves traditional Portuguese egg custard tarts, pastries, and savoury snacks to visitors and locals in Lisbon's historic Belém district.
Our story
In 1837, Pastéis de Belém began crafting traditional Portuguese custard tarts using an ancient secret recipe from the adjacent Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. Today, that original recipe is recreated daily by hand in the bakery's Secret Room, preserving a time-honoured sweet-making tradition.
Located in Lisbon's Belém district, the historic establishment offers spacious tiled dining rooms and takeaway service. Alongside their famous warm, crispy tarts, the café serves a variety of sweet pastries, savoury snacks, light meals, and drinks everyday.
